Housewarming Gifts for a New Home From Brands You Haven't Heard Of

Wall sconce  ·  $99  ·  Poplight

A new apartment often shows up with one overhead bulb and a lease that forbids holes. Poplight is a rechargeable LED sconce from Denver that mounts with a damage-free system, so you can put it up without a drill, screws, or an electrician. It lists at $99 across the colorways on the shop, puts out about 300 lumens at 3W, and runs warm, neutral, or cool white with dimming through touch controls on the fixture or an iOS and Android app. The USB-C battery lasts up to 9 hours, or you can leave the sconce plugged in.

That covers bedside, reading-corner, and hallway light without trying to replace the ceiling fixture. The useful part for a move is the wall: the nightstand stays clear, and the sconce comes down clean when the lease ends. Gift it for night one, especially to a renter; a second one covers the hall with the same damage-free mount and the same USB-C battery.

Portable lamp  ·  $144  ·  Graypants

Wirecutter's 2026 housewarming guide includes the Wick, a small rechargeable lamp from Graypants that you carry from the door to the bedroom when the place is still full of boxes and an open flame is a bad idea. The Black Wick lists at $144, marked down from $169, with Add to cart available. Specs run 35 lumens at 1W and 2600K, dimmable, in plated aluminum, IP20 and UL listed, with a rechargeable lithium-ion battery and a built-in LED. Runtime on the brand page is 12 to 150 hours depending on the mode.

Those 35 lumens make a warm puddle closer to a candle than to a ceiling bulb, so Wick belongs on the nightstand, in the hallway, or in the corner with no outlet yet, while Poplight is the 300-lumen sconce when the room actually has to be lit. Gift the black one when they want light they can move without burning anything on move-in night.

Bath linen  ·  $140  ·  Baina

Baina is Bailey Meredith and Anna Fahey's bathing line. The Solitary Set in Sand and Noir is two pieces: a Torrens hand towel (40 by 70 cm) and a Claremont bath towel (70 by 140 cm), in a warm biscuit tone against black. Both are 100% organic cotton terry, double-looped, weighted for softness and absorbency, and built to dry faster than a plush hotel towel that stays damp until tomorrow. This Sand and Noir set lists at $140; Baina sells other colorways as well.

Most moves land with one thin towel pulled from a box, and two good towels in a real colorway take care of the bathroom people use every morning, which is the room a housewarming gift usually skips. Gift it when the linen closet is still empty.

Food trays  ·  $34.95  ·  Crudités

Crudités is a flat food tray with a reversible stretch lid, built by a two-person brand. Square is 12 by 12 inches; rectangle is 9 by 12. Both hold about 3 liters, and the shop colors include cream, sage, and coral. The tray is food-grade polypropylene, BPA-free, freezer safe and dishwasher safe, and it can go in the microwave while the brand says to keep the flexible lid out. One side of the lid holds a shallow snack; flip it and the deeper side covers a salad or a grain bowl. The stretch-lid container lists at $34.95.

Week one in a new kitchen usually runs on takeout lids and a single mixing bowl, so a slim tray that stacks in the fridge earns its spot quickly: it holds leftovers and a packed lunch, stores flat while the cabinets are still half empty, and doubles as a snack spread when people stop by.

Kitchen towel  ·  $38  ·  Earth & Nest

The Range Towel is a cotton kitchen towel with snaps, cut so it loops over a stove handle instead of sliding onto the floor. Wirecutter's 2026 housewarming guide includes it for that reason. It lists at $38 in blue, red, and white, all available, woven in Portugal from 100% cotton in a French stripe. It measures 16 by 16 inches once the loop is snapped closed, it washes normally between 86F and 140F, and you can unsnap it to rotate a dry face to the front.

Week one in a new kitchen is wet hands and one burner, and a towel that stays put on the oven handle covers both, while Baina, above, handles the shower. The stripe hides a stain better than a plain white bar towel, which matters before anyone has a laundry routine, and the plastic snaps hold it in place on a handle or rail, so gift it when the range has one to hang from.

Pickles  ·  $50  ·  Blue Ridge Pickling

Blue Ridge Pickling is Francesca Campbell and Dane Brennan in Northern Virginia. The sampler is three 12oz jars you choose from the lineup; the usual three are Original Dill, Chesapeake (Old Bay), and Habanero. The sampler lists at $50, down from $54, while single jars, including Original Dill, start at $18. Dill is the garlicky everyday jar, Chesapeake uses Old Bay, and Habanero is tangy with milder heat than the name suggests. The brand's dill page calls them refrigerator pickles, so plan on fridge space rather than a warm cupboard.

Food gifts for a bare pantry tend to fail when they arrive as a basket nobody opens, while three jars of pickles get eaten with sandwiches in the first week. Gift the sampler when you want the range, or a single $18 jar when the budget is tighter.

Housewarming set  ·  $72  ·  Sunhouse Craft

Sunhouse Craft in Kentucky packs the old housewarming trio: a mini broom, bread in the form of a dehydrated sourdough starter, and salt. Wirecutter's 2026 housewarming guide includes the set. The marbled box lists at $72 and the plain kraft box at $68, both available. Inside is a Tampico-fiber, stainless steel, and leather mini hawk-tail broom made by Sunhouse; a dehydrated starter from Wild Lab Bakery in Lexington, with a card; and 3.5 ounces of J.Q. Dickinson finishing salt from West Virginia. The box closes with magnets, and checkout has a line for a handwritten note.

The broom earns its place the first night, when the counters are still dusty, and the salt fills a gap in a bare pantry. The starter is more of a weekend project, since it needs flour and a few days before there is bread. Gift the marbled set when you want the whole custom in one box, or the $68 kraft box for the same contents.
