Most founders spend months building hype before they sell a single unit. Countdown pages, waitlists, social media teases. The traditional playbook is well-worn.
Burst ignored it entirely.
Six co-founders, one overlooked superfood from a single farm in South Africa, and a quiet Amazon launch in November 2025 with no fanfare whatsoever. We sat down with co-founder Emily Farrell to talk about why proving demand before building hype is a smarter strategy, what a first subscription order actually means, and how moringa went from a holistic doctor's recommendation to a growing wellness brand.
The Product and Audience: What is Burst and who is it for?
Burst makes premium moringa supplements with one simple mission: make exceptional nutrition easy to fit into everyday life. Our products contain 100% pure moringa, available in powder and capsule form, sourced from a single farm in South Africa known for its nutrient-rich soil. While anyone can benefit from better nutrition, Burst primarily serves health-conscious adults โ especially women in their 40s and 50s who want to support healthy aging without filling their cabinets with dozens of supplements.

The Spark: When did you launch, and what made you say "I need to build this"?
Burst came together through an unexpected combination of personal experience and data. I was already working alongside Amazon ecommerce experts when another entrepreneur introduced me to a South African moringa producer. The introduction came with a story โ a friend's mother had struggled with high cholesterol for years before her holistic doctor recommended moringa. After seeing significant improvements, the story quickly spread. At the same time, Amazon search data showed growing demand for moringa products. The combination of a meaningful customer story and clear market opportunity convinced six co-founders to build Burst together.
The Launch: When did you launch and how did you approach it?
Instead of following the traditional startup playbook, we launched quietly on Amazon in November 2025. There wasn't a big countdown or social media campaign. We focused on building strong product listings, high-quality content, and a smart PPC strategy. Only after establishing traction on Amazon did we launch our direct-to-consumer website, followed by Meta and Google advertising and affiliate partnerships. Sometimes proving demand first makes marketing much easier later.
The First 100: How did you find your first customers?
Amazon. That's it. Rather than spreading ourselves across multiple channels immediately, we focused on where customers were already searching for products like ours.
The Advice: What would you tell a first-time founder in their first 90 days?
Know exactly who you're talking to. Trying to appeal to everyone usually means connecting with no one. Get crystal clear on your ideal customer, then speak directly to them in a way that feels personal, emotional, and authentic. The more specific you become, the stronger your message gets.
The Reality Check: What is the hardest part of this journey that people don't see on social media?
Building a business takes longer than social media makes it look. Progress isn't always visible week to week. Founders have to balance patience with consistency while making hundreds of small decisions every day. Success usually looks less like overnight growth and more like showing up every day, even when the results aren't obvious yet.
The Milestone: What has been your biggest "we made it" moment so far?
For me, it wasn't the first sale. It was the first subscription order. That recurring customer represented something much bigger than revenue. It meant someone trusted Burst enough to make it part of their routine. That was the moment the team realized we were building more than a product. We were building lasting customer relationships.
The AI Trend: How have you used AI to help your business grow?
AI has become one of our biggest productivity tools. I've used it for everything from content planning and business strategy to building custom Shopify features that normally would have required a developer. I also rely on AI as a thought partner โ helping organize ideas, improve workflows, and refine the company's long-term vision.
The Horizon: What should we be excited to see from Burst in the next six months?
We're investing heavily in affiliate partnerships and creator relationships. Community building is like a snowball โ it starts small, but with consistency and momentum, it grows into something much bigger. The next six months are focused on accelerating that growth.
The Recommendations: What are your favorite under-the-radar brands right now?
